YEP closing event at AVL – Looking back on an inspiring afternoon

On 12 June 2025, we celebrated the conclusion of the fourth cycle of the Young Energy Professionals (YEP) programme at the premises of AVL List GmbH in Graz. The event offered a wide range of insights, valuable ideas and, above all, an opportunity for young energy experts, company representatives and stakeholders in the energy industry to exchange ideas.

To kick things off, Dipl.-Ing. Mag. Gerhard Gamperl, Managing Director of the World Energy Council Austria, and AVL Executive Vice President Urs Gerspach welcomed the guests and emphasised in their speeches the importance of young perspectives for shaping future energy systems. Participants then enjoyed a guided tour of the AVL campus, gaining exclusive insights into state-of-the-art research areas, including battery test benches, hydrogen systems and innovative mobility solutions. The diversity of developments at the Graz site was impressive and sparked numerous technical discussions. An introduction to AVL by DI Erik Luznik (Sales Manager) was followed by inspiring keynote speeches on digitalisation, new forms of energy and the role of technology-driven innovation in the transformation of the energy sector.

Attention then turned to the presentations by the three YEP working groups:

  • Stakeholders: Insight into current challenges and opportunities for cross-sector cooperation
  • Networks: Analysis of the resilience and future security of our electricity grids
  • E-mobility: Trend analysis on the use of flexibility – from vehicle-to-grid to grid stabilisation

The presentation was opened with an introductory statement by Ms Izzo, spokesperson for tourism at the Styrian Chamber of Commerce, who emphasised the social relevance of the topics in particular.

During the get-together that followed, the topics were discussed further in a relaxed atmosphere.

A big thanks to AVL for their hospitality and to everyone who helped make this successful closing event happen.
