Slovenia Study Tour

🇦🇹🇸🇮 WEC Austria on a Two-Day Study Tour in Slovenia
Two days, two key destinations, and plenty of fascinating insights into our neighbouring country’s energy infrastructure and energy supply.
🔹 Day 1 – ELES
At ELES, Slovenia’s electricity transmission system operator, we gained valuable insights into the challenges facing the transmission grid and its ongoing development. Key topics included the importance of resilient grid infrastructure, the integration of renewable energy sources, and the growing complexity of the European energy system.
🔹 Day 2 – Krško Nuclear Power Plant
On the second day, our study tour took us to the Krško Nuclear Power Plant, near the Slovenian-Croatian border. The visit gave us an opportunity to learn more about the plant’s technical systems and the requirements for ensuring safe and reliable nuclear power generation.
Particularly valuable was the opportunity to speak directly with on-site experts, who shared insights into how the nuclear sector collaborates internationally to better understand and manage risks.
Once again, the study tour highlighted the importance of cross-border exchange, professional dialogue, and taking a holistic view of the energy system. At a time of far-reaching changes across Europe’s energy sector, these kinds of insights and discussions are particularly valuable.
A heartfelt thank you to ELES and the team at Krško Nuclear Power Plant for their warm hospitality, open discussions, and valuable insights.
We would also like to extend our sincere thanks to our WEC Vice President, Aleš Prešern from Siemens Energy, for opening the doors to ELES and Krško Nuclear Power Plant and making these visits possible as part of our study tour!
