70th GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF 21 NOVEMBER 2018

Executive Assembly, joint board meeting and 70th general assembly of WEC Austria took place on November 21, 2018 in the Siemens City of Siemens AG Austria.

Annual Report 2017, annual financial statement 2017 and budget 2018 were approved, and the actions of the Managing Board and Managing Directors were ratified.

Furthermore, the amendment of the WEC Austria Statutes was approved and the YEP program of WEC Austria and the upcoming World Energy Congress 2019 in Abu Dhabi were discussed.

Mr. Alexander Peschl, Business Development Energy Management CEE, Siemens and Mr. Philipp Nießen, Speaker Energy and Climate Policy, BDI, could be won as guest speakers.

Alexander Peschl addressed the three megatrends decarbonisation, decentralisation and digitisation, which will change our energy systems to an extent never experienced before. This means that the future “energy complex” will have to meet completely different demands in terms of physical, communicative and business conditions. The most diverse technological building blocks must be combined in such a way that this increasingly decentralized system functions. For the new energy world, however, the appropriate legal and economic framework conditions must also be created for all market participants. Sector coupling will become much more important. Energy consumption will decline and electricity consumption will rise.

Philipp Nießen presented the results of the study “International Aspects of a Power-to-X Roadmap”. This study was commissioned by the World Energy Council Germany. The study paper was commissioned by Frontier Economics, supported by 17 partners from industry. The study shows the framework conditions for the development of a global market for Power-to-X from Germany. Power-to-X technologies are an industrial policy opportunity and a key factor in climate policy for a CO2-free energy system. The study provides the roadmap for the development of a global Power-to-X market and makes recommendations for industry and politics.
